Sponsoring Chinese Mountaineering Association Members Debuting in the Top International Ski Mountaineering Race

TAG Heuer has officially announced to be the Official Timekeeper and Official Watch of the Patrouille des Glaciers (PDG), the Swiss most legendary ski mountaineering race and one of the world’s most demanding, witnessing the extreme excitement of the race and implanting deeply the brand’s avant-garde spirit of #DontCrackUnderPressure.

For the occasion, and as a First for the Patrouille des Glaciers race organized by the Swiss Army, a Chinese national team consisting of three members of Chinese Mountaineering Association will take part in this world-famous race, thanks to the support of the Swiss luxury watch brand TAG Heuer. Florent Troillet, the winner of the race in 2010, has been invited to coach the team. With the #DontCrackUnderPressure spirit, the Chinese national team is prepared to face up the challenge with power and pride.

At the press conference held at Beijing Huaibei International Ski Resort, TAG Heuer has invited several important figures to attend, including Fabrice Favero, President of the association to promote and support the Patrouille des Glaciers, Florent Troillet, winner of the Patrouille in 2010 and Coach for the Chinese National team, Pierre-André Gremaud, representing the city of Verbier hosting the PDG and the place for training of the Chinese Team in Switzerland, as well as Mr. Li Wenmao, director of New Project Department of China Mountaineering Association, Mountaineering Management Center under General Administration of Sport of China.

Florent Troillet, the winner of PDG 2010 and Coach for Chinese National Team, said, “I’m honored to lead the Chinese national team to debut in PDG. Pierre-André Gremaud, Head of the premium Swiss ski resort Verbier declared: “ For Verbier, the cradle of Ski Mountaineering, the PDG is a major event since 1943. We are therefore pleased all the more this year to welcome a Chinese patrol in our international but authentic ski resort.”

Mr. Li Wenmao, director of New Project Department of China Mountaineering Association, Mountaineering Management Center under General Administration of Sport of China, stressed, “We appreciate this valuable opportunity that TAG Heuer has brought for the Chinese National Team. PDG is a highly challenging race with a rather long racing period. For both China Mountaineering Association and the Chinese mountaineering sports in general, it can be considered as a historic breakthrough. We felt the great responsibility that we are shouldering, for the trust and support of TAG Heuer and for the spirit of Chinese people. We believe that the Chinese National Team will make us proud and achieve a glorious record in PDG."

The Patrouille des Glaciers is an international ski mountaineering race organized every two years by the Swiss Army, which is considered to be the most legendary race of Switzerland. Each patrol consists of 3 members. They start from Zermatt, Valais of Switzerland, goes through nearly 53 kilometers of snowy mountain racetrack and faces up 110 kilometers’ altitude difference by hiking, skiing or even rock climbing. Participants must conquer extreme conditions such as heavy snow, low temperature and dangerous mountain tracks, so on and so forth, spending approximately 20 hours, day and night, to reach the finish line – Verbier.

During the race, the physical ability and team-work spirit is put to the extreme test. When the avant-garde spirit of TAG Heuer meets the competition soul of PDG, the significance of #DontCrackUnderPressure reaches far beyond timekeeping for the race, exuding positive energy of extreme challenges on a greater platform.

This year’s PDG will take place from 19th to 22nd April 2016, bringing together a huge group of more than 5000 racers. With the great support of TAG Heuer, the debuting Chinese national team will be trained for one week under the leadership of Florent Troillet in where the 2015 World Championship of Ski Mountaineering was held, to be ready and win glory for China.
