The revolutionary Monaco V4 - with the world’s first belt-driven movement - is showered with international design awards. Among them is the Red Dot Design Award 2005. The award is given for innovative product design by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen.
By replacing the traditional pinion and gear transmission with a belt-driven movement, the Monaco V4 overturns the traditional rules of watchmaking. This reinvention of the mechanical watch required a parallel reinvention of the tools and techniques used to create the groundbreaking timepiece.

Competition is stiff : there are more than 11,000 entries from 61 countries. Named after the Red Dot Museum in Essen, where the annual prize ceremony takes place, the Red Dot Design Award is handed out in three categories : Product design/ design team, Communication design and Design concept.
